Ukhrul and Tangkhul Naga

Ukhrul District, the land of the colorful Tangkhuls was marked out first as a Sub-Division in 1919 during the British Rule. Then in November 1969 it was upgraded to a full-fledged district, bearing the nomenclature of Manipur East District. The area of the district was 8,200 Sq Km. according to the CSI Publication 1976. Later Tengnoupal District, now called Chandel District was carved out from this district on 15th July, 1983 and the area of the then Manipur East District was sliced down to 4,544 Sq Km. and the title of the district was changed into Ukhrul District in 1983. Ukhrul is a district in the north eastern state of Manipur in India. It lies about 84 Km kilometers to the east of Imphal.


The district of Ukhrul is a land of beautiful mountains interspersed by numerous Tribal habitats echoing with rhythms of tribal culture and rich wild life. The un-spoilt nature has enchanting calls to those who prefer to spend sometime in tranquility away from the din and bustle of mechanical life, its flora and fauna have their own appeal to the visitors. Nicer and more educative will be the tribal flock and visitor could meet on route during their sojourn.

INDO - JAPANESE CURRENCY

During the British rule in India, many fought the English in their own ways they think appropriate. Mahatma Gandhi, who chose non-violence, was considered the father of the Indian Nation because of his distinguished leadership quality and non-violence. Subhash Chandra Bose, on the other hand, took up arms and made an alliance with the Japanese Force, under the banner of Indian National Army (INA) and fought the British Govt. in India. INA first hoisted the Tri-color Indian flag in Manipur. It was during that time the INA and the Japanese Govt. used this currency.
